If you have had unsafe sex and believe you have been exposed to HIV it might be possible to reduce the possibility of transmission by taking PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis). Sexual health clinics and hospital emergency departments will administer PEP. For PEP to be possible, it is essential to present to a sexual health clinic or emergency department as soon as possible within 72 hours after the exposure.
